Wonder what it’s like being a video editor at NV? Harry’s taken a moment to look back on the past twelve months in his role, revealing his favourite project, dream client to work with, and go-to places for creative inspo. Keep scrolling.

NORTHERN VISUALS VIDEO EDITOR HARRY

YOUR ROLE MUST REGULARLY TAP INTO YOUR CREATIVITY. WHERE DO YOU LOOK FOR IDEAS AND INSPIRATION?

Instagram and Youtube are my go-tos. I’ve discovered so many different creators on those platforms and taken in so much knowledge — from how they create their films to how they edit their videos in a particular style. I started out on YouTube myself, creating short animation films.

YOU’VE WORKED ON A TONNE OF PROJECTS OVER THE PAST YEAR. TELL US ABOUT YOUR FAVOURITE ONE SO FAR.

Every day’s a challenge. But if I had to pick one stand out favourite, it’d be Blackburn Beverley. It was an exciting project, something a bit different to anything I’d worked on before, and there was a lot of cool footage to work with in terms of motion and grading.

WHO IS YOUR DREAM BRAND TO WORK WITH AND WHY?

NASA.  I’ve always been a massive fan of anything space related, so obviously they’d be pretty cool to have as a client. I can imagine there’d be a huge scope for creative freedom with that kind of stuff, too.

YOU’VE ACCOMPLISHED MANY GOALS SINCE JOINING NV, BUT WHAT WOULD YOU SAY HAS BEEN YOUR GREATEST ACHIEVEMENT?

I’d have to go with the Hull and Lincolnshire Business Awards edits. It was a high status job, and there was a lot of interview and B-roll footage to sieve through within a short period of time. On the night of the awards, we watched the virtual ceremony together in the office, which was rewarding and a perfect close to the project.

FINALLY, WHAT ARE YOU MOST EXCITED FOR OVER THE NEXT TWELVE MONTHS?

Definitely to be working on even more creative briefs, so I can push my creative potential and experiment more in my edits. I’d also love to have more of a hands-on involvement in pre-production, with brainstorming ideas and the storyboard side of things.
